Your transportation correspondent forgot to mention that addition of the mighty Metrobus 7Y route. It was actually added at the end of 2010, but for this purpose we call it out for 2011. It is the only bus route that goes from Shirlington into Washington DC. The first stop is the Pentagon where the bus continues onto South Eads Street until 15th Street (Crystal City), then goes to Washington DC by way of beautiful, historical Constitution Avenue to "Federal Triangle" near Pennsylvania and 10th Street.

First You Dream to replace Pal Joey at the Kennedy Center in June

Into the show’s June 8 to July 1 slot will go “First You Dream: The Music of Kander and Ebb,” a revue directed by Eric Schaeffer that had its world premiere at Schaeffer’s Signature Theatre in September 2009.

Signature Theatre's Hairspray brings more dancing to Washington theater

And Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer promises this is just a start. Based on the success of “Hairspray,” more dance-oriented musicals are in the works for the Arlington theater. In fact, Schaeffer says he hopes to open next year’s season with a dance musical.

Just came from a trip to Animal Welfare League of Arlington...anybody have any good, gently used dog beds you don't need anymore? Or, like in my case, that the dog won't sleep in because she'd rather use it for a toy holder? Drop them off at the shelter or bring them by either one of our stores and we'll get the beds to the shelter. Warm, cozy beds for the dogs and cats at the shelter to start the new year!

According to their webpage message, they are planning on opening in January. However, there are signs in the windows of Bistro Bistro and Luna that they will be open for brunch on Christmas day. Per the signs - Bistro Bistro will be doing a buffet brunch from 10AM till 3PM. Luna will be serving brunch between 9:30 AM and 2PM.

Shirlington Metrobus Changes effective December 18, 2011

MetroBus routes 23 and 25 will be different effective Sunday, December 18, 2011

As a result of a Service Evaluation Study recommendations, Metro will implement new weekday and weekend running times on the 23A and 23C routes (McLean-Crystal City Line) to reflect increased passenger demand and traffic congestion.

Metro will implement new weekday travel times on the 25A and 25E routes (Ballston-Bradlee-Pentagon Line). On the 25A, new afternoon peak running times will address increased traffic congestion along the line. On the 25E, westbound trips will depart the Pentagon between 8:43 a.m. and 2:45 p.m., and eastbound trips will depart Ballston Station between 9:40 a.m. and 2:38 p.m. These trips will bypass Shirlington and serve the Parkfairfax area including Gunston Rd., Valley Dr., Martha Custis Dr., and Preston Rd.

We have a large number of Metrobus and ART bus routes that serve into the Shirlington hub. Every day there are several buses that go nonstop directly to the Pentagon Metro Station. Other buses serve the west direction routes. Another thing that sets Shirlington apart is that many of the buses runs on the weekends (check the schedules).

So, something that just started has enhanced public transportation even more. You can now put money on Smartrip cards online. You won't have to take time waiting in line or struggling with cranky machines should you choose to utilize the online payment from the comfort of your own home. (If you don't want to, that's cool too.)
